Coffee accessorizing

I spent the last post discussing many different coffee options. Onto the accessories:

(1) A new burr grinder : My bum shoulder made my manual burr grinder almost impossible to use on a daily basis, so after months of drinking pre-ground coffee, I decided to upgrade. My coffee guru friend (who actually works in the coffee industry) recommended the Bartaza. It was definitely more money than I was initially willing to spend on a grinder, but after a few weeks of staring at it on Amazon’s website, I decided to buy myself an early birthday present.

(2) A new coffee maker : For the last couple of months, I’ve spent more time thinking about automatic coffee maker – about the water moving through sections of heated plastic – and wishing I was drinking something, well, less plastic-y. Enter Chemex. I noticed this a couple of weeks at another local coffee shop and was intrigued. My coffee guru friend approved, and as it turns out, my sister had been using one for years and loved it. Let’s just say hitting the “purchase” button on that Amazon order wasn’t so hard.

My coffee tastes so much better. These changes actually reminded me how much I like coffee. I have to get up about 5 min earlier on work days, but it is well-worth the investment.

Update (1/28/19) – In my quest to reduce waste, I recently discovered the CoffeeSock reusable chemex filter, available for purchase from Amazon or Wild Minimalist. I plan to transition to that when finished with my current box of paper filters.
